Texaco Country Showdown - Clark County Fair 2011

I've been looking forward to attending K-99 F.M., Texaco Country Showdown for weeks now. I did not know that I would be battling 90 degree weather and one heck of a hot ride to the Clark County Fair. But, several weeks ago the air conditioning in my van went on the blink and I had to tough it out so, I was already heated up when I got there.

For years now, K-99 F.M. has been promoting the “Day in the Country” at John Cloud Park in Huber Heights. Each year, crowds got larger and larger thus allowing K-99 to spend bigger buck$ to bring in the BIG GUNS of Country to draw bigger crowds. That was then and this is now.

Back over the years since 1999, K-99’s big time productions have been getting lame and produced with a much smaller budget. The last few years stand out and have been the worst in my memory.

Texaco’s 2011 Country Showdown was no different. Once I arrived and made the long hot journey from the parking lot to the BIG TENT, I thought for sure there would be some kind of large commercial fans circulating the air, trying to cool off the tent that’s set up to seat 1000 people. NOPE! Looking around, I seen one large fan on the stage but it’s not running.

From the front row where I was sitting, the K-99 F.M. Radio Banner had fallen down from the bottom of the center stage, but no-one stopped to fix it before the show started. The sound system was not hooked up correctly and kept fading in and out during contest performances, Nancy Wilson’s pre & post show comments, CD giveaways and all the announcements.

What is the deal with Nancy Wilson anyway? Does her family own K-99 F.M. Radio or what? This has to be true because any smart program manager or station owner would have fired her ass years ago. She is so radio political. I’m sorry if the truth hurts. She has lost her radio flair and check out the god awful outfit she wore on stage to prove it. Appearance & Image is everything Nancy! I won’t be listening to your station anymore.

My brother Kevin (Boo Boo) Williams entered this competition and was number three in the Showdown’s line-up. Let me refresh your memories about my brother Kevin. His band ELDORODO and the U.S.A. BAND won the K-99 F.M. Battle of the Bands three different times and was the opening act for the “Day in the Country” in 1993, 1994 & 1998. Maybe some of you remember them. Talent and experience was on his side.

The singing competition line up was as follows: 1. Joel Wilson, 2. Kevin Henderson, 3. Kevin Williams, 4. Shanna, 5. Bourbon Lakes, 6. J.D. Outlaw, 7. Jennifer Lee, 8. Debi Lieurance, 9. Union Rose, 10. Bronson Hetzer.

A big CONGRATS goes out to “UNION ROSE”, winner of Texaco’s K-99 F.M. Radio Country Showdown for this regional .

Rumors have surfaced that Nancy Wilson was over heard whispering to the inexperienced talent judging panel that Kevin Williams and the band backing him up were prior winners of this competition on three different occasions. To me, that seems really unfair and really shows Nancy’s playing her politics. Why would she do that?

Miami Valley, when the full video of this competition becomes available, please check it out and judge all the talent for yourself.

Kevin’s on his way to Nashville now for his audition for the Television Series “THE VOICE”. Good luck my brother.
